Starting in mid 1963 Connecticut began using self adhesive decals instead of the metal year tabs. But eventually
thieves began snipping the corners off of plates to get the decals. In 2009 the DMV began issuing windshield stickers instead
of plate decals. One of the exceptions are the "Early American" plates. They continue to use a plate decal. Dealer and Repair
plates had decals for a while but have returned to an embossed expiration.
